Valor

You’ve walked this path. Now help others navigate theirs.

Valor connects cancer individuals with the support they need most—and that starts with people like you. Your experience, empathy, and willingness to help can make all the difference.

You know what they’re going through.

Cancer isn’t just a medical diagnosis. It’s the overwhelming confusion. The logistical nightmare of finding childcare, navigating insurance, or getting to treatment in a different city. The loneliness of feeling like no one truly gets it.

But you do. You’ve lived it—either as a individual or as someone who supported a loved one through it. That lived experience is invaluable. It’s what turns information into understanding, and guidance into genuine connection.

Valor exists to scale that human connection—so that every person facing cancer has someone who listens & cares

Listen and
guide

Help patients and caregivers talk through what they’re facing. Sometimes they just need to be heard. Other times, they need help figuring out their next step.

Navigate resources

Connect people with the housing, transportation, financial assistance, or support services they need. You’ll research, coordinate, and follow up.

Share what you’ve learned

Your insights help us build better content, identify gaps, and understand what patients really need. You’re shaping Valor’s future.

Who you are matters more than credentials.

We’re building a team of people who genuinely want to help others through one of the hardest experiences of their lives.

If you’ve navigated cancer yourself—or walked alongside someone who has—you already have the most important qualification: empathy grounded in reality.

Optional Qualifications

Cancer survivor or caregiver with lived experience

Comfortable using technology and learning new tools

Ability to research resources and follow up with care

Background in social work, nursing, counseling, or caregiving

Strong listener with patience and emotional resilience

Right now, these are volunteer roles.

As Valor grows, we’ll be creating paid positions—and the people who help us build this will be first in line.

These are the results

  • Your help has been invaluable. This process has been more difficult than I expected. Your support made today much more pleasant and the next weeks less daunting.

    – AR, cancer patient
  • Thank you for your effort on my behalf. It is so reassuring and definitely helped me. I was able to get a grant for 5 days of lodging. This journey has been a series of miracles, you being one of them.

    – JL, mother of cancer patient

JL’s son was starting cancer treatment in a new city. She needed help finding affordable housing, transportation, and financial assistance. We spent hours researching and connecting her with resources.

This is the work. It’s not glamorous.

It’s researching Airbnb hosts willing to offer discounts, calling foundations to ask about emergency housing, and finding gas card programs that might apply.

It’s following up a few days later to see how things are going.

It’s also life-changing.

What working with Valor looks like:

For now: volunteer, flexible, meaningful

We’re in the early stages of building Valor. Right now, we’re looking for people who want to volunteer their time—on your schedule, at your pace. Some weeks might be a few hours of research. Other weeks might be a single phone call with someone who needs support.

In the future: paid roles, structured support

As Valor grows and our app launches, we’ll be hiring trained support specialists. If you’re part of the early volunteer team, you’ll have first access to those roles—along with the experience, training, and insight to excel in them.
